In-House Alterations

Your dress, fitted and perfected by our seamstresses - without ever leaving the boutique.
Your dress doesn't end when you choose it. It starts. Every wedding dress needs adjusting to fit your body, and at London Bride, that happens right here in the boutique - not in a workshop across town, not outsourced to someone you've never met. Our seamstresses work on-site, which means the person who fits your dress is the same person who alters it, and they're here on the day you collect it.

Why In-House Wedding Dress Alterations Matter

Most bridal shops send your dress out. We don't.
No Middleman
Your dress stays right here in the boutique. There's no courier, no third-party workshop, no risk of miscommunication. The seamstress who takes your measurements is the one doing the work.
They Know the Dresses
Our seamstresses work with our designers every day. They know how a Sincerity bodice is constructed differently from a Mori Lee. That knowledge matters when they're pinning your dress.
They're There When It Matters
On your final fitting day and when you collect your dress, the seamstress is on-site. If something needs a last-minute tweak, it happens there and then. No rebooking, no waiting.
"The number one thing I tell brides: stop holding your breath. If the dress fits properly, you won't need to."

Head Seamstress

HOW IT WORKS

From your first fitting to collection day, here's how it works.
01
Find Your Dress
Our consultant helps you choose your gown during your appointment. Once you've said yes, we book your first fitting.
02
First Fitting
[Placeholder: X weeks] before your wedding, you'll meet your seamstress for your first fitting. Bring your wedding shoes and any undergarments you plan to wear. They'll pin, measure, and talk you through exactly what's needed.
03
Second Fitting
Your dress has been altered and you're trying it on again. Most brides need two fittings, some need three. There's no rush and no extra charge for an additional fitting if it's needed.
04
Collection
Your dress is steamed, pressed, and ready. You'll try it on one final time with your seamstress to make sure everything is perfect before you take it home.

What to Expect From Your Fittings

The practical details, so there are no surprises.
Timing

Alterations are charged separately from your dress. Pricing depends on the work required and is quoted at your first fitting. There are no hidden charges.
What to bring
Your wedding shoes (or shoes of the same heel height), any undergarments or shapewear you plan to wear, and a strapless bra if your dress requires one.
Number of fittings
Most brides need two to three fittings. If you need an extra fitting, that's not a problem.
Who can use this service

Why every wedding dress needs alterations

Wedding dresses are made to standard measurements. No matter your size or shape, the dress you order will need adjusting to sit properly on your body. This isn't a fault with the dress or with you - it's how bridal fashion works. Alterations are what transform a beautiful dress into your dress. The bodice gets taken in or let out to match your frame, the hem is adjusted to your exact height in your wedding shoes, and details like straps, necklines, and bustles are refined so everything sits exactly where it should. Most brides need at least two fittings to get this right.

The difference between in-house and outsourced alterations

Many bridal shops don't have their own seamstresses. When you buy a dress from them, your alterations are sent to an external workshop, sometimes one you'll never visit. Your dress leaves the building, gets worked on by someone who hasn't seen you in it, and comes back. If something isn't right, you're booking another appointment and starting again. In-house alterations mean your dress stays in the same boutique from the moment you choose it, with the seamstress who sees you in the dress doing the work herself. If you need a tweak at your final fitting, she's there. If you have a question about fit on collection day, she's there. That continuity makes a real difference.

London Bride is located at 203 Walworth Road in Walworth, South London, a short walk from Elephant and Castle station. We've been here since 1977 and our in-house alterations service has always been part of what we offer. For brides across South London, that means you don't need to travel across the city or manage multiple appointments at different locations. Our in-house alterations service is exclusively for dresses purchased at London Bride. This means our seamstresses are familiar with every dress we stock and can work with the specific construction and fabrics involved.
Pricing depends on the work required.
We recommend 8-12 weeks before your wedding.] If your wedding is sooner than that, speak to your consultant and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Most brides need two to three fittings. The first is for pinning and measuring, the second is to check the alterations, and a third is occasionally needed for final adjustments.
Your wedding shoes, any undergarments or shapewear you plan to wear on the day, and a strapless or low-back bra if your dress requires one.
Speak to your seamstress as early as you can. Small changes can usually be adjusted at a later fitting, which is one reason we leave the final fitting close to your wedding date.
Because our seamstresses work on-site, minor adjustments can often be made there and then. That's one of the biggest advantages of in-house alterations.
