Types of Sparkle

Sparkle in bridal comes from several sources. Glitter tulle has tiny metallic particles woven into the fabric, creating an allover shimmer that's built into the material itself. Sequins are flat, reflective discs sewn onto the surface. Crystal beading uses faceted stones that catch and refract light. Metallic thread embroidery adds subtle, woven-in shimmer. Each type creates a different quality of sparkle: glitter tulle provides even, ambient shimmer; sequins create focused, bright reflections; crystals produce rainbow-like light play; and metallic thread adds a soft, warm glow.

Sparkle Levels

Not all sparkle is created equal. A champagne-toned glitter tulle overlay creates a subtle, warm shimmer that's visible but understated, perfect for daytime weddings and brides who want just a hint of glow. A sequin-covered bodice with a plain skirt provides concentrated sparkle that draws the eye to the upper body. An allover sequin or crystal gown creates maximum impact for evening ceremonies and glamorous celebrations. Choose the sparkle level that matches your venue's lighting: subtle sparkle for daylight, higher impact for evening and candlelit settings.

How Sparkle Photographs

Sparkle and glitter photograph differently depending on the light source. In natural daylight, the effect is subtle and warm. Under venue lighting, particularly spotlights and fairy lights, sparkle comes alive with bright points of light across the dress. Under camera flash, sequins and crystals can create dramatic, star-like reflections. Your photographer will likely adjust their approach to complement the sparkle: some may reduce flash to avoid overexposure, while others use it to maximise the effect. The result is photographs that genuinely glow.

It depends on the type and density. Glitter tulle and metallic thread create a soft shimmer that looks lovely and understated in daylight. Heavy sequins and crystals are more dramatic and may feel brighter in direct sun. For a daytime wedding, choose a subtler sparkle like glitter-infused tulle or scattered beading. For an evening reception, feel free to go bolder. Many sparkle dresses look subtly different in various lighting conditions, which is part of their charm.
Quality glitter tulle shouldn't be. The glitter particles are woven into the fabric, not glued on top, so the surface feels like standard tulle. Lower-quality versions with glued-on glitter can feel rough and may shed particles throughout the day. When trying on dresses, pay attention to how the fabric feels against your skin. A well-made glitter tulle will feel soft and comfortable.
Quality sparkle should not transfer. Glitter woven into tulle stays in the fabric. Well-attached sequins and crystals remain on the dress. Lower-quality materials with glued-on glitter can shed, so quality matters. If you're concerned, run your hand firmly over the fabric during your appointment: if glitter comes off on your palm, it will come off during the day. Our collection uses quality materials that don't shed.
Yes. Sparkle is an embellishment detail, not a modesty concern. A glitter tulle gown or beaded dress is perfectly appropriate for a church ceremony. The sparkle adds beauty and celebration to the setting. Some brides feel a subtle sparkle suits a church better than heavy sequins, but this is a personal preference rather than a rule.
Glitter tulle adds virtually no weight since the particles are built into the fabric. Sequin and crystal beading adds weight depending on density and coverage. An allover sequin gown will be noticeably heavier than the same dress without sequins. Scattered beading or sparkle concentrated on just the bodice has minimal weight impact. Try on sparkle dresses to assess the weight before committing.
Less is usually more. A sparkle dress is already making a statement, so accessories should complement rather than compete. Simple earrings, a plain veil, and understated shoes let the dress do the talking. If you add more sparkle through accessories, make sure it's the same type: crystal jewellery with a crystal dress, pearl accents with a pearly shimmer. Mixing sparkle types can look uncoordinated.
